Once again it?s time for the super, colossal, double summer issue of the Spotlight. By the time the August issue comes around it will be time for school!! UUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!! We will have had a fantastic June and July with Youth Week and the Mission Trip. (Be sure to keep looking in the bulletin for details of Youth Week and the Mission Trip.)
April and May have been very busy and a whole lot of fun:
In April there were 15 youth who participated in the 30 Hour Famine. We had the Prayer Walk set up again this year. It was a very powerful and spiritual experience. The youth raised $1135.00 to help feed the children of the world and here in the US. This event could not happened without the help and support of several people. I need to thank Roger and Rochelle Harbison, who spent the night and next day with us, and helped set up the Prayer Walk; David Gardner, without whom, I could not do any of these projects with the youth -- he is definitely my right hand; Mike and Melissa DeLuca, who were the driving force behind the scenes for the Prayer Walk; Chuck and Michelle Dyer, who helped set up the Prayer Walk and graciously donated Subway sandwiches, chips, and drinks for all of us after the Famine; and Edith Bleecker who led the final devotional time Saturday evening, which was awesome.
May 8th was an incredible evening. The 2010 Youth Dinner and Silent Auction was a rousing success. We raised almost $3900.00 that will go directly to fund our mission trip to Confrontation Point. Thanks to all who donated items – the quantity and quality of the items this year was fantastic. The evening started with entertainment from The Jaguar Ringers, the sixth grade hand bell choir from Highland Hills Middle School under the direction of Miss Adams. They were Great!!! Melissa DeLuca was in charge of the dinner, which was a Grecian menu, and was outstanding. Thanks to all who helped Melissa preparing that marvelous dinner. Thanks to Pam Beckman for helping me set up the dining tables and display tables and to Rochelle Harbison for her beautiful decorations. I need to thank Lara Barrow, Melanie Williamson, and Kathy Scannell for cataloguing all of the items and for handling the money. They did a great job. David Gardner did his usual magnificent job with the youth, making sure that all of the guests were well taken care of and that the youth looked nice. Thanks to Mark Bleecker and all who jumped in to make sure the dishes were done before we went home! Most importantly, I need to thank all of the youth who participated at the dinner and those who were not able to be there but made sure they donated something anyway. David and I heard many compliments on your courteousness and fine service. Thank you very much for your great effort!!!!
As of publication date we have 25 (yep, 25) youth going on the mission trip in July! YEEEEEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWWWW! God is so good!
And that?s the summer BUZZ!
Peace, Pastor Kevin
